About Your Tech

I’m Doug Neighbors, owner and operator of Idle Guitars. I am an avid guitar lover and player who was trained to build and repair guitars by Jack Pimentel of JP Guitars. Before I made pickups I maintained guitars which I continue to do when I have time. Whether you need a basic setup, extensive repair, or exciting modification, I will give your guitar the utmost care and attention to detail. No matter the job, you can trust that your acoustic, electric, or bass guitar is in good hands.

Setups

From the most expensive custom shop instrument to the cheapest pawn-shop special, every guitar can benefit from a proper setup. Truss rod adjustment, action setting, and intonation are critical elements of a guitar’s performance. With these attributes dialed in, any guitar can play like a dream.

Electronics

Swapping pickups is just the beginning. Upgraded components, alternative control layouts, and wirings mods like coil splitting, phase reversal, treble bleed, and series/parallel switching are great ways to improve and customize your instrument.

Fret leveling

When your frets start buzzing, chances are good they are out of level. Filing them down and polishing them ensures not only that your guitar is playable all over the neck but also that every fret feels buttery smooth.

Nut and saddle

As the primary contact points with the strings on a guitar, the nut and saddle are integral to tone and tuning stability. Whether made of bone or TUSQ®, a nut or saddle that is well-cut and lubricated can improve the overall playing experience.
